LCD Calibration

use this test screen to perform automatic screen calibration. LCD panels using digital (DVI) connector cable do not require screen adjustments.LCD panels using analog connector cable offer automatic,one-click screen geometry adjustments.

Brightness/Contrast

one of the most important steps in the monitor calibration is to set the brightness and contrast correctly. this test screen helps you to select the right values for your display. first of all, set the brightness of your monitor to the maximum, then decrease it until the color around the test patterns appears black, then adjust the contrast until you are able to see all twenty shades of gray in both rows.

Scope

use this test screen to perform basic screen geometry calibration (image size and position), and to adjust advanced settings(pincushion, trapezoid, parallelogram) in the case they are available in your monitor configuration menu.LCD panels using digital connector cable do not require screen geometry adjustments.LCD panels using analog connector cable offer automatic, one-click screen geometry adjustments.

Gamma

bring up your gamma correction controls, adjust the overall gamma until the middle and top sections of the grey square on the right are the same brightness. (or, if you’d rather calibrate to a gamma of 1.8 which is the apple standard, match the middle with the bottom.)it helps if you defocus your eyes a little bit, then adjust the individual red, green, and blue gamma values until the respective sections of the red, green, and blue rectangles match up.

Convergence

this calibration test screen is designed for classic monitors to check their ability to position the red, green and blue electron beams accurately. Closely check the line segments, especially in the screen corners. The segments should not stagger by more than the line width.

screen size

vertical and horizontal guides to adjust the size of the picture. the square lines in the borders make it easier to accurately adjust the image size. the vertical and horizontal rulers help to verify the display resolution and picture.

white pattern

the focus is not the only effect which reduces image sharpness. Take also a look at the convergence and decrease the contrast if necessary. Use the focus test screen to search for differences between the center pattern and the corners.

sharpness

this test screen is ideal for both classic monitors and LCD panels.
on CRT monitors compare the sharpness of the pattern in the four corners of the screen. in the case the outer patterns seem to be blurry, try to reduce the contrast or the monitor resolution. in the case the whole test image seems to be blurry on an LCD panel, it could be either due to improper monitor settings (with analog monitor connection); or due to the fact that not the native resolution of the LCD panel is used.

dots

this calibration test screen is designed for classic monitors to check the displayed dense dots are free from waves and ripples. is a natural symptom due to interference between the phosphor layout and vedeo signal.on several monitors it is possible to fine tune the image to reduce this effect . please refer to your user’s manual of your monitor about reducing the xx effect.

grid tests are ideal to check , and tune the display geometry , convergence settings.

color tests

on this page you can find several tests to check your computer and monitor ability to display colors , and to find dead/stuck pixels on LCD displays.

red

this solid red screen is ideal to check the color uniformity of your monitor.LCD users are also able to check the display area for dead red sub-pixels. you should degauss your classic display before this test. magnetic fields (e.g. speakers) near the monitor can produce color distortions.
small imperfections are common in LCD monitors, please refer to your user’s manual for the manufacturer’s dead pixel policy.

orange

this solid orange screen is ideal to check the color uniformity of your monitor. you should degauss your classic display before this test. magnetic fields (e.g speaker) near the monitor can produce color distortions.

white

completely white screen for checking the backlight brightness and uniformity of the LCD monitor and also good to find dead pixels
small imperfections are common in LCD monitors, please refer to your user’s manual for the manufacturer’s dead pixel policy.

Gradient fills

gradient fill is an ideal test to check the monitor ability to display a smooth color transition from black to red . it is recommended to run this test in True color mode. several color management solutions can cause some roughness in the color transition, this is a normal phenomenon.
