FIRST ARTICLE INSPECTION (FAI): A complete, independent, and documented physical and functional inspection process to verify that the manufactured product meets the Customer drawing and test requirements documentation and / or any other applicable specifications or design documents.
FIRST IN FIRST OUT (FIFO): A material handling strategy, First-in first-out, based upon using up the oldest date code material first, i.e. using the earlier lot first.
FOREIGN OBJECT DAMAGE AND FOREIGN OBJECT DEBRIS (FOD): A generic term for a substance, debris, particulate matter or article alien to the assembly or system.
IN PROCESS: Parts have been accepted for processing and released to manufacturing but not yet accepted at final inspection or scrapped. In process inspections are typically “visual” (uniformity, coverage, etc.) checks to determine if parts should proceed to the next processing step.
JOB AUDIT: Review of work in-process to verify compliance to procedures, regulations, technical standards, audit checklist criteria, internal auditee procedures and conformance to customer requirements. Per task group at meeting and via email.
JOB ORDER: One batch/lot of product to be produced for one unique control number (lot code) for a given part number.
KEY CHARACTERISTICS: The features, identified in the customer documentation, of a part whose variation has a significant influence on product function, safety, fit, performance, service life, or manufacturability.
