Yesterday I downloaded MyJXTA 2.5 via Webstart, started the app and entered a user name and password. After this the JXTA Configurator automatically moves to the Rendezvous/Relays screen. It tells me I must provide at least one seed relay address, what does that mean and why do I need this?
The config help page gives some example which does not work, are there actual relay peer addresses I can enter here? Anything I have tried results in the app just closing down. Is there a listing of what JXTA Rendezvous/Relay peers are currently available somewhere?
It sure would be good to have a step by step configuration tutorial that gives a detailed explanation of all the options the configurator provides and why and when each may or may not be required for each possible case.
On Vista I'm using the ESET Smart Security firewall, should I disable it? My internet connection is through a d-link wireless G router, it is presently set to the defaults it had right out of the box. Do I need to disable TCP in the JXTA configurator?
There is a thread about seeds (relays and rendezvous) on the forum. If you don't set seeds, there is a 99.9999% chance that your peer won't meet anyone on the network (especially if no one else is running JXTA on your LAN). You need relays if you are behind a firewall or a NAT, because most of the time, you will be invisible to other peers from outside of your LAN. Relays help bypassing the restrictions of firewalls and NATs (most of the time). Disabling your firewall is not recommended and won't help (unless you have the chance of your lifetime, but I would not count on this).
