　　名词mouthful的本意是吃一口菜、吃一口饭的“一口”（The amount of food or other material that can be placed or held in the mouth at one time），而say a mouthful是一个美国俚语，意思是，说得中肯，说到点子上。这句中，mouthful的含义就变为“重要而有洞察力的见解”（An important or perceptive remark）。
　　例句：
　　Senator, I want to tell you that you sure said a mouthful when you said taxes are too high and you'd work hard to lower them. Good to hear, and you can certainly count on my vote!
　　参议员，你说税收太高，你要努力想办法来降低税收。我要告诉你，你说的完全正确。听到这样的话很高兴，我一定会投你一票的。（一个人在赞扬一位竞选连任的参议员所发表的讲话）

人人都爱听赞美的话，那该怎么用英语赞美女生漂亮、男生“帅呆了”？下面就教你两招。

1. You're looking sharp!

你看上去真精神/真棒/真漂亮。

Sharp常用的意思有下面几个：

1) 锋利的，快的，尖锐的，eg. Be careful with that knife – it’s very sharp. (当心那把刀子——它很锋利。)

2) 清楚明显的，eg. The tower stands sharp against the clear sky. (那座塔巍然屹立，映着睛朗的天空。)

3) 刺耳的；eg. The whistle is sharp. 笛声刺骨。

但是在口语中，sharp 还以用来表示“动人的，时髦的”，可以称赞别人的外表非常精神/有气质。举个例子，那天我看到我的朋友把头发扎起来了，我就跟她说“Hey, you’re looking sharp!”她回答说：”Thank you.”

2. You look like a million dollars.

你看上去帅呆了。

从字面上看该句话是“你看起来像百万美元”的意思，实际上这句话是用来赞美某人非常帅气的，可能是因为人一有了钱，看
上去也会显得比较帅的缘故吧。这句话就相当于”You look outstanding.”或者”You look like a movie star.”
