Dear WESC Team Member,
Congratulations! Because of your team's hard work and exceptional final
report, you have been selected to take part in the Windows Embedded
Student ChallengE (WESC) 2006 World Finals!
This on-site competition will take place on the Microsoft Campus in
Redmond, Washington on June 22-24, 2006. Microsoft will pay for your
team's round-trip airfare, hotel accommodations, and meals and
transportation (between your hotel and Microsoft) so that you can come
to Redmond to compete in the finals.
The competition was tough this year, as teams from around the globe
submitted some outstanding final reports. Our judges worked long and
hard, carefully reviewing all of the 185 reports we received. We tallied
up the results and, because of your team's exemplary work, you were
selected as one of our top 30 finalists. A list of all finalists can be
found here: http://windowschallenge.learningce.com/News/662.aspx.
Congratulations!
The top 30 teams will be traveling to Microsoft from around the world.
You will have the opportunity to meet students from other countries and
to learn from them. You will also meet all of the Microsoft staff,
volunteers and judges who have been supporting you throughout the
competition. Additionally, we hope that you will get the chance to see
some of beautiful Seattle while you're here.
You are competing with the best teams in the world. Winning the
competition will not be easy and you will have to make a great effort at
the World Finals.
To help you prepare for the finals, please read the attached document
"Preparing for the Finals." Also, keep the following high-level things
in mind:
* The competition takes place over two days. We start with a
welcome dinner on Thursday, June 22, and the finals will be held on
Friday, June 23 and Saturday, June 24, 2006.
* You will need to prepare a 20-minute final presentation for the
judges and a poster for your demo table.
* At this point, you cannot change your team's final report or
direction of your project. Please focus your team's attention on
optimizing the performance of your project.
* Don't rely on a single instance of your presentation or your
equipment. Make a back up copy or bring back-up equipment if possible.
* Non-US Teams may want to contact their local embassy or
consulate to find out the best way to bring their equipment through
customs.
* Most of you outside the US will need a valid passport and a
student visa to visit the US. Please book your team's visa consulate
appointments now, as the wait time can be weeks in some cases.
We will send another update soon with additional travel and logistical
information. In the meantime, read and refer to the attached "Preparing
for the Finals" document. Please keep all these e-mails handy, to help
you prepare for the World Finals.
We hope that all of you will find WESC 2006 an enjoyable and rewarding
experience. We look forward to seeing you in Redmond next month. Good
Luck!
