One of the tools that we have suggested for communicating homework in the SharePoint is the calendar. The calendar definitley gives the user the best visual for events. A drawback as I see with entering events into the calendar in SharePoint is the amount of steps that are involved in entering a new item. Here is a feature for those that are using the calendar that I think you will like. Especially if you are already using your outlook calendar as an organizer. You must be running outlook 2007 to accomplish this. You have the ability to sync ( have both calendars communicate and share ) data.
Why is this useful?
You can copy events from one calendar to the other. You can enter dates directly into your outlook calendar without the same steps needed in SharePoint. A great way to communicate important events, due dates and information as well as stay on top of professional responsibilities. Here is how you do it.
First, enter into the calendar list by selecting the title.
Then select actions from the calendar toolbar in sharepoint.
Select connect to outlook from the drop down list. This is all you need to do within sharepoint.
Now open your outlook calendar.
Select your calendar by placing a check next to its title within outlook.
Now you can view, and edit both calendars while you are in the outlook. You drag events between calendars. Copies are automatically made.
