1. What is environmental sustainability and why is environmental sustainability important both in general and in your chosen profession?

“Environmental sustainability refers to the responsible management of natural resources to fulfill current needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs. It aims to balance ecological, economic and social goals, such as reducing carbon emissions, promoting renewable energy and ensuring equitable resource access.”（ Patterson, 2024, Para 1)

“Environmental sustainability is important to preserve resources like clean air, water and wildlife for future generations. Another important sustainability definition that Weinstein likes is: “Ensuring that human society operates with ecological borders.” This definition is known as the Planetary Boundary (PB) concept.” (Patterson, 2024, Para10)

Critical Reflection (500 words)

1. Start your reflection with a brief statement that explains which acknowledgement of country you chose, why you chose it and what have you learnt or been able to reflect on, in relation to the in-class discussion regarding acknowledgement of country?

2. Then write about your overall learning journey in the first four of the trimester.  You might like to consider the following:

a. Describe an insight you came to regarding the significance of research in the assessment process.

b. Describe an insight you came to while to working on this assessment, which relates to your current studies, future profession, or future goals.  Explain how you came to realise this insight.

c. Explain why this insight is important and discuss any questions it raises. Has the insight gained made you more sure or less sure about your current studies and/or future career?  Has the insight impacted the way you think about your future career or your understanding of the implications this might have for your career?

d. End by exploring how this new insight can be used in the future - during your studies, personal or professional life, or future career?
