In studying network, we had a short discussion in class of what a data had been transferred and modified while being transmitted from one computer to another. In the video Warriors of the Net, we reviewed the important steps for a data to be encrypted as well as modified in order to keep the data of MP3, JPG, PDF, etc. to be transferred to the right place and being read by right people. However, there's always something going wrong. Therefore, loss of data occurs. And some of the data cannot be transmitted because of the firewall blocking them. The firewall provide a safe environment for people to deliver their message and preventing virus. At the same time, a standard for all these data is needed, because there need to be a common way for encryption and decryption in order for people to receive the correct message.
Also, people use OSI as a way to identify the information transmitted through tunnels of communications, and in this way, people are familiar with the data transmitted as well as the integration of the data sent to the receivers. Also, it is a good way to keep the security of the users' data.
OSI:
The Open Systems Interconnection model (OSI model) is a conceptual model that characterizes and standardizes the communication functions of a telecommunication or computing system without regard to their underlying internal structure and technology. Its goal is the interoperability of diverse communication systems with standard protocols. The model partitions a communication system into abstraction layers. The original version of the model defined seven layers.
