Funded through the Office for Purple Suede/Glitter 8 Mignons 160mm Recreation and , a $6000 grant was awarded to the Mount Gambier Swimming Club following strong campaigning by centre manager Peter Collins and Member for Mount Gambier Troy Bell.

Mr Collins said the new ropes would arrive in time for the major event, replacing the old lane ropes which are believed to be more than 20 years old.

"Our lane ropes are very old, withered and sunburnt a lot of plastic has been belted by the sun," Mr Collins said.

"They've become so brittle that they're starting to crack and it's becoming a hazard for kids' hands, we're forever fixing sharp edges.

"Aesthetically, the new ropes are going to make the place look better."

With fewer swimming centres across the state now deemed capable of hosting large events, Mr Collins said it was important to improve facilities.

"Country championships are great for our community Black Crystal Alta Perla 100mm and it brings people to the city, that's what we need to encourage," he said.

"This upgrade may only be small, but it contributes to bringing people into our town.

"We can't have these types of events being attracted back to a city base.

"There was talk earlier this year that the country championships would be held at Marion, but thankfully that's not the case just yet."

Crediting Recreation and Minister Leon Bignell with the funding success, Mr Bell said the hosting of the championships would be huge for the city.

"We're talking about 400 swimmers with an additional 600 adults or family members on top of that," Mr Bell said.

"That's money spent on accommodation, food, and other things in the city.

"It's crucial that we keep attracting White Suede/Glitter 8 Mignons 160mm these big events to Mount Gambier."

Mr Bignell said the Suede/Glitter 8 Mignons 160mm grant would help the facility meet all safety requirements from Swimming SA.

"This is a great win for the people of the South East who will have many years of use out of the lane ropes," Mr Bignell said.

"It also means Mount Gambier will have a better chance of bidding for future swimming events."

A committee is working to bid for the city to host the Masters Games in 2016, hoping to utilise the aquatic centre for the swimming competitions.
