RAR (file format)

RAR is a proprietary archive file format that supports data compression, error correction and file spanning. It was developed in 1993 by Russian software engineer Eugene Roshal and the software is licensed by win.rar GmbH. The name RAR stands for Roshal Archive.
RAR 是一种专利文件格式，用于数据压缩与归档打包，开发者为 Eugene Roshal，RAR 的全名是 Roshal ARchive。

The filename extensions used by RAR are .rar for the data volume set and .rev for the recovery volume set.

ZIP (file format)

ZIP is an archive file format that supports lossless data compression. A ZIP file may contain one or more files or directories that may have been compressed. The ZIP file format permits a number of compression algorithms, though DEFLATE is the most common.

7-Zip is a free and open-source file archiver, a utility used to place groups of files within compressed containers known as archives. It is developed by Igor Pavlov and was first released in 1999. 7-Zip has its own archive format called 7z, but can read and write several others.
7-Zip 是一个开放源码的数据压缩程序，主要用在 Microsoft Windows 操作系统，Unix-like 的操作系统如 Linux 与 FreeBSD 下面有 7-zip 的移植版本 p7zip 可以使用。它提供命令行接口的程序或图形用户界面的程序，而且可以与资源管理器结合。

The program can be used from a Windows graphical user interface that also features shell integration, from a Windows command-line interface as the command 7za or 7za.exe, and from POSIX systems as p7zip.
7-Zip 预设的格式是其自行开发的 7z 格式，扩展名为 .7z。

Most of the 7-Zip source code is under the LGPL-2.1-or-later license; the unRAR code, however, is under the LGPL-2.1-or-later license with an unRAR restriction, which states that developers are not permitted to use the code to reverse-engineer the RAR compression algorithm.
