Sentences:

  • I am certain that’s the tallest mountain.
  • My cutton shirt has buttons.
  • I have forgotten when the book was written.
  • Martin was born in Great Britain.

Lesson12. The ing sound

想象一下读/g/的时候舌头的位置,然后读ing的时候最后舌头也放在那个位置,但是/g/的音不要完全发出来。

Words:

  • thinking
  • working
  • practicing
  • thing

Sentences:

  • I am thinking about buying the ring.
  • Who are you bringing to the wedding.
  • I love swimming, running and playing tennis.

Lesson13. “TR” and “DR” Sounds

两个辅音发音结合能生成一个全新的发音。
个人感觉中国人应该不会有发音的问题,主要是针对日本和印度。
Words contain “TR” like “try”, “travel”, “introduce” etc.
Words contain “DR” like “dry”, “drama”, “drop” etc.

Lesson14. “TU” and “DU” sounds

  • When a T or D followed by a U, they create a new sound.
  • T followed by U:
    actually(chu) /ˈæktʃuəli, -tʃəli/
    statue(chu) /ˈstætʃuː/
    nature/ˈneɪtʃə $ -tʃər/
    picture/ˈpɪktʃə $ -ər/
  • D followed by U:
    graduate/ˈɡrædʒuət/
    educate/ˈedjʊkeɪt $ ˈedʒə-/
    schedule/ˈʃedjuːl, ˈske- $ ˈskedʒʊl, -dʒəl/
    individual/ˌɪndəˈvɪdʒuəl◂/
  • one more thing
    can’t you
    aren’t you
    won‘t you
    通通连读为/tʃu/
    did you
    would you
    could you
    通通连读为/dʒu/
  • Sentences:
    Would you like to see the shcedule?
    Aren‘t you graduating in the spring?
    Can‘t you see the statue?
    Did you get a college education?

Lesson15. "ED"Endings

Examples:

  • waited-ded(中间的t转浊化成/d/)
  • robbed-d
  • stopped-t

Several rules:

  • If last letter is T or D, “ed” is a separate syllable.
    needed
    painted
    completed-/deɪd/
    attended
    counted
    invited–/deɪd/
  • If last letter is voiceless, “ed” becomes a T sound.
    worked
    parked
    cooked
    passed-sounds the same as past
    laughed
    pushed
    watched
  • If the last letter is vocied, “ed” becomes a “D” sound.
    loved
    realized
    used
    called
  • Sentences:
    I painted the walls and fixed the gate.
    I cooked a meal and wsahed the dishes.
    I attended a party and danced all night.
    He called his friend and talked for an hour.
