Upon release Demigod immediately had issues. You basically couldn't get online when it came out, which ended up nabbing the team behind the game some pretty scathing reviews. The servers were overloaded thanks to a ton of pirates and people who obtained the game early thanks to a screw-up with Gamestop, leading to an inability to play online multiplayer in a game where that is the biggest emphasis.
Brad Wardell details the problems in his latest blog, talking about how with Demigod's "somewhat unusual" peer-to-peer connection, games that required multiple players to connect to every other player presented extremely complex connection issues, making it "a nightmare to get games going online."
"Buy one broken game, get the second (hopefully fixed) half off."
The team is still working on it, but tomorrow should be releasing a patch that will address many of the connection issues. Things won't be perfect, but the staff at Gas Powered Games is working on patching in more and more options/fixes in the coming days. For those of you who have been burned, Stardock is planning on sending out an email to anyone who purchased Demigod prior to May 19th that includes a coupon for 50% off the game for a friend. They also plan to send out coupons for other Impulse games in order to keep players using the service.
