未选之路

美国大诗人罗拔.弗罗斯特( Robert Frost )有一首名作,叫做The way not taken(未选之路):

  Two roads diverged in a yellow wood
  And sorry I could not travel both
  And be one traveler, long I stood
  And looked down one as far as I could
  To where it bent in the undergrowth
  
  Then took the other, as just as fair
  And having perhaps the better claim
  Because it was grassy and wanted wear
  Though as for that the passing there
  Had worn them really about the same
  
  And both that morning equally lay
  In leaves no step had trodden black
  Oh, I kept the first for another day
  Yet knowing how way leads on to way
  I doubted if I should ever come back
  
  I shall be telling this with a sigh
  Somewhere ages and ages hence
  Two roads diverged in a wood
  and I—I took the one less traveled by

  这首诗,多少有点“自传体”。
  弗罗斯特原先在一所师范学校教书,生活安稳但是平坦,这样的生活之路,自然是一条人烟稠密的路。可是,1912年,38岁的弗罗斯特选取了另外一条路:远走他乡,一心写诗。他卖掉了祖传的农场,举家迁居到英国。在离伦敦不远的一个村子里,安下了一个简单的新家。他认为,这是一个生活程度比较低,但有利于写诗的环境,于是安顿下来,不辞辛苦作诗人。
  
  弗罗斯特义无反顾地选取了“另一条路”:一条人迹稀少,难以回头的路。
  在伦敦住下不久,弗罗斯特出版了他的第一本诗集《孩子的意愿》,马上赢得了诗人们的好评。

  当然,并非所有选走独木桥的人都有这么好的运道。弗罗斯特是幸运的,不过他也确实有自信,有魄力,敢于选择一条人迹稀少,难以回头的路。对于大多数人来说,只能对一条“未选之路”唏嘘、向往:要是当初……
  
  是啊,没有走成的路,总是充满浪漫、神奇,让人缅想、神往。
