Create a custom field

I am going to create a custom field to check the progress of tasks in my project. First, in the Tools menu, I point to “Customize”, and then click “Fields”, I leave task field because I   won’t make the custom field to appear in the task of the project .I also leave the Text to the task type. And I leave the Text1 field selected. I want the custom field to be permanently renamed as the progress. So I click rename and then type Progress, I have three specific types of progress in my field so the field will consistently use the same terminology to describe each progress. I want to provide this descriptor as a drop-down list in the field so I click lookup I type each descriptor in the value column, “On Track”,” Slipping” and “Blocking Issues”. In most cases tasks in my project might be “On check”, so I want to identify that is the default solution in this list. I click this check box click on track and then click “Set Default”. Next I want to display icons to indicate this progress descriptors. I click graphical indicators and then fill out the table on this dialog box, if the progress field equals “On track” I want to display a green happy face , if the progress   field equals to slipping I want to display a yellow face, and if the progress field equals “Blocking Issues”,   I want to display a red sad face, now I have customize my field I click the column I want to display on the right of my custom field,   on the insert menu, I click column, I click progress in the field name list. I want the graphical indicator to appear in the center of the column so I click center in the “Align data” list. Now I can quickly see the progress of my tasks using graphical indicators. If one of my tasks begins to “Slipping”, blocking issue I can easily change the progress using the drop-down list.
