如何改写（paraphrase）英文句子？

改写（paraphrase）是指：

 

“运用与原句不同的词汇、句式，重新写一个相同含义的句子。”

 

它是一项很重要的语言技能，因此在多项英语考试（IELTS、TOEFL）的口、写科目中，皆为重要得分点。

 

看一个例子：

① You should learn paraphrasing, for it is very important.

② Paraphrasing is extremely important, so it should be learned.

 

我们发现，②对①做了如下改动：

1） 单词

very : extremely

2）词序

You should learn paraphrasing, for it is very important.

（A，因为B）

:

Paraphrasing is extremely important, so it should be learned.

（B，所以A）

3）语法结构

You should learn paraphrasing : it(paraphrasing) should be learned.

一、改单词

a. 近义词替换

“近义词替换”是很多学生常用的手段，但是注意，这种方法是很危险的。

尤其对于非母语学生而言，很多“你以为的”近义词，它们往往适用于不同的场合，甚至在含义上并不接近。

 

举例

原句：It can be difficult to choose suitable words to write a sentence.

错误：It is often a challenge to pick up (X) relevant (X) words to create a sentence.

正确：It is sometimes a challenge to select appropriate words to create a sentence.

错误一："pick up" 与 “choose” 根本不是一个含义。前者含义为“改善”或者“接”；后者含义为“选择”。

错误二：在某些语境下，"relevant" 与 “suitable” 可以互为近义表达。但是在此处不合适。

对于“近义词替换”，建议大家在使用时，一定要百分之百的确定。

否则，用错了替换词，反而弄巧成拙 -- 在考试中，往往会因此失分。

b. 改词性

将原句中的某些单词改变词性，一般来说，改词性的同时也会改动词序。

 

举例

原句：A writer has three main ways to paraphrase a sentence.

改写：A writer mainly has three ways of paraphrasing a sentence.

 

二、改词序

a. 主从句顺序

如果一个长句子有两个或以上的句子组成，可以通过调整句子的顺序来完成改写。

举例

原句：If you practice paraphrasing frequently, you can paraphrase effectively.

改写：You can paraphrase effectively, if you practice paraphrasing frequently.

 

b. 形容词变从句

句子中如果有“形容词+名词”结构，可以将形容词改成一个从句，放在名词后面。

举例

原句：Learning paraphrasing is a difficult task.

改写：Learning paraphrasing is a task which is difficult.

a. 改语态

改句子的语态：主动改成被动，反之亦然。
举例

原句：Paraphrasing means rewriting a sentence by different words.

（A means B.）

改写：Rewriting a sentence by different words is called paraphrasing.

（B is called A.）
