It is a phenomenon that people are losing trust in each other in today’s society. Some people become selfish,and for interest, they are likely to betray their colleagues,friends, and even their relatives. They tend to cater to those who can benefit them and look down on those who are worthless to them. For these people, Shylock might be their best representative, an indifferent, selfish, and greedy character from The Merchant of Venice. Shylock loves exploiting others rather than enjoying life with his money.Although he is a billionaire in material, he is a poor man in spirit, who has no friends and dies from his greed. His life story shows that selfishness is a double-edged sword, it can either profit you or destroy you .
