每天学点English Email(转折词的运用)

写作中常用转折词(transitional phrase),好长语句,上下段落间承接更自然,文章的脉络也能更清晰.

转折词有许多种类,如表时间顺序,作说明,表强调,表目的,作比较等.其用法主要有一下两种:

[示例]连接两者

提案已经核准,虽然有些细节问题仍须修改. [word] proposal n.提议,建议,求婚

The proposal was approved in principal,though details need revision.

置于句子或段落开头

能花几天出过旅游一定很有乐趣,不过想想,我真的没有时间.

It would be fun to spend several days traveling abroad.But ,on the other hand, I really don't have the time.

[换句话说]to rephrase it ,

[换个方式说] to put it differently/another way ,

[换句话说] in other words .

[也就是说]that is to say,

[具体的说]specifically 

[表时序的词汇]previously 先前;在...之前 formerly 以前;从前 before 以前 beforehand/earlier预先;事先;早先的时候

表[之前]词汇中previously和formerly 须搭配过去式或过去完成式使用,beforehand,earlier 则无时态限制.请见下句

Formerly he worked in a factory as an operator, but now he is a technician.

你可以在研讨会上文首席执行官问题,不过你得先写下来.

You can ask the CEO a question at the seminar ,but you have had to write it down beforehand /earlier.

表[同时]at the same time和另一个副词in the meantime 都表[同时],但两者之含意,用法稍有不同,请见以下比较:

既然你和他都是同个时间开车来公司,你们就共乘一部吧.

Since you and he drive to the office at the same time ,why don't  you carpool?

你上周五申请的新账号到星期四之前都不会下来.这段时间你可以用我的账号.

The new account number you requested last Friday will not be processed until Thursday, In the meantime, you can use my account number.

表[强调,突显语意]

I would like to stress/emphasize ... 我想强调....

I would like to emphasize the need to approve this proposal.

我想强调批准这份提案的必要性.

I can not stress /emphasize enough... 我不得不强调....

we urge to do .. 我们很希望您...

我们很希望您对此合约能在考虑一下.

We urge you to reconsider the contract.

...bears repeating .  ...值得再次说明/强调

The story of our troubles with the case is long, but it bears repeating.

这个案子我们遇到的麻烦说来话长,但值得再次说明.
