In preparation for the release of the Windows Phone 8 SDK, I decided to start reading up on what I need to do to “get ready”.

Based on all the information gathered from the “leaked” SDK, one of the things developers need to be aware of is the minimum PC requirements for developing Windows Phone 8 applications!

Windows Phone 8 development requires the developer running Windows 8 64-bit. The reason for this is that the emulator now requires Hyper-V. Hyper-V only works on Windows 8 64-bit and requires a machine that supports SLAT (Second Level Address Translation).

How do I check if my hardware supports SLAT?

Download the cool Windows Sysinternals tool Coreinfo and run it with the parameter -v!

Once you have confirmed that your hardware supports SLAT, all that’s left is to install Hyper-V.

1. Open “Turn Windows feature on or off”

2. Enable Hyper-V

Now you are ready to install the SDK
