Procedural Map Generation Workshop
2016-1-30 Ed
Welcome to Coder Bunker's first workshop!
Learn how to use some of the techniques used by game designers
to make their game worlds, particularly making virtual terrain with
code. We’ll explore how games like SimCity, Minecraft, and Skyrim
make their landscapes and make our own basic demo in an
interactive workshop.
Procedural Map Generation Workshop
Come learn the basics of computer terrain and map generation!
Games, computer graphics, and spatial modelling all benefit from
landscapes that can be generated cheaply and manipulated easily.
This interactive workshop will walk you through the theory and
practice behind the use of noise functions, height map creation,
approximating natural landscapes, and the performance concerns
that arise. The participants will be guided through the process of
writing a Javascript demonstration of all these concepts. By the
end of this workshop, participants will be able to gain javascript
experince, understand the uses for noise-generators, and simulate
natural processes.
