Minutes of TMC#13 5

Basically the meeting in TM is divided into three sessions:prompt speech,prepare speech,evaluation.

Prompt  speech session-lead by Gaofeng our dear secretary.

He brought us a very good theme:those great orators and he organized the session in an innovative way.the content of the speech is self-organized,both the speaker and the table topic master did not know what the speaker will talk about.the topic is decided gradually by a series of question.different answer lead to a different direction.so the content is organic in John's words.

Thanks John fore bring it out.otherwise i will miss it.

 

Ray Wang won the best speaker at last.He talked about the value of a speech.

His ideas lies in two folds:value for the speaker and value for the audience.

Very logical idea,very clear mind,steady voice and good pronunciation.

 

Prepared speech session:

Rockyteng- some tips on how to take a bus

Helen wang- my embarrassing experience

David qu - a true story about Ah bao.

 

Rocky was worried before the meeting whether the topic is proper to present in TM.

It ended up that people like it.

Sometimes choose a small topic and present something that was ignored by others will have a good effect too.

Compared with last two,yes,you have made some progress and not that nervous.

But,still lack confident.you forget some script and hold a pen in your hand.

Your voice lacks variety.need tp practise more to get rid of script.

 

It is hard to find flaws in helen's speech.her ability of telling a story is world-class.

Always very confident,her writing skills,royal British accent is my role model.

She has a very good command of English.

"The expression in the students' eyes are different."

Her speech Definitely worth double check.

 

David today told us a story about ah-bo. I did not quite follow him at the beginning.

So it is kind of difficult for me to catch what kind of information he want to deliver to the audience.As usual,his presentation skills is almost perfect in my eyes.very high level on controlling the stage,connecting with the audience.

 

Evaluation session.

Thanks Cindy Cheng as my IE today,she gave me some very useful tips on how to improve my script. For example,if you can not change it,you'd better accept it.

I really appreciate her wonderful work.

 

 

GE John pointed out that David's story is good but he could not find much connection with the objective of C7:research your topic.i am not sure if David agreed him.anyway,it is good to point it out as long as it is genuine.

John also brought up Gaofeng's innovative way of organizing and presenting the prompt speech today.

He also point it out that i have made some grammar mistakes in my prepared speech.which are:

dangerous & in danger.

The man is dangerous. The man is in danger.

Excited&exciting

Also he told me a tip on how to memorize script that is use image and create connection between 

Abstract object with concrete object. Like truth&scale

Good tips and thanks.

*One thing i was really worried about evaluation is that we lack some senior level member to evaluate speeches.and evaluation is such important to the speaker.we need to improve.

 

Gaolan's grammarian report.

She present her responsibility loud and clear:

1,word of the day

2,comment on grammar mistakes

3.bring up good usage of English.

word of the day-Get over .

Recover --- It took him a long time to get over his cold

Overcome--- He can't get over his shyness

Actually i can change my script a little from don't be shy,don't give into fear to get over your shy,get over your fear to use it.sad for me,i was kind of nervous that i forgot it.

She also brought out that most common mistakes on grammar is tense-which i can agree more.

I made tense mistakes and from time to time.And another common grammar mistake is singular&plural.

She run short for time.same mistake as i made before.it seems that you have lots of things to talk about as a grammarian.

I remember this part very well because i have been a grammarian two weeks ago.and i paid lots of effort on how to be a good one.so i think personally that good preparation will help you learn more.and observe how other member do the same role is good way to grow. Isn't it?

Jessie zhang act as invocator brought us why goes TM and the famous "stay hungry,stay foolish"

Her elegant way of speaking English is really a good example to follow on a stage.

By the way,i don't quite understand what invocator do in a meeting?

PS3:i chose to be toastmaster next meeting because i need to practice more to build my confidence

I would bring some changes when introducing speakers.i noticed that prepared speech speakers did not provide enough information to toastmaster.and thus TM could not introduce engough information to audience which affect the perception of the speech.
