Admittedly, more chances are offered to students to learn the latest political event, such as school courses or short summary about politics online every day. However, I still don't think students nowadays are more concerned about political than in the past.
Firstly, the requirement to find a good job is more tough than before, so students may need more time to focus on their own major in order to have a better job in the future, so students are spending less time on politics than before. Even though courses today seem as easy as their counterparts, today there are more people than in the past who are qualified to do the same kind of job. So, in order to find a job and at the same time to get a competitive one, students need to spend more time today to learn something better than others. As a result, the time spend on reading political news are very limited.
Secondly, even someone argued that students are more interested in politics, because they have more access to it. In the past, students may need to buy a newspaper or watch TV in order to get information about the politics. While today students only need to open their phone and scan some specific app which is quite simple. However, the fact is that students use their phone, most of time, contact with familiar friends or just to finish the study requirement such as watch an introductory video of something. These things are really more intriguing than politics. So, students may be more interested in the latest service offered by new technologies such as Facebook to communicate with families, rather than politics.
Thirdly, students are more concerned about policy rather than politics. Some students just need to make money in order to pay for their high study fees and the house renting costs. So, these students really are more eager to collect information about jobs or discount of something in order to make and saving money. As a result, students may seldom talk about politics so they would have very limited interest in it. While in the past, there were not so much information about jobs and discount, so students finally did have sometime spending on reading politics and thus some of them finally are interested in it.
In conclusion, students are less interested in politics than before.
