One afternoon in Zhongguancun(redo CC5)

One afternoon in Zhongguancun

Hey,boys and girls! Have you ever been to electronic markets of Zhongguancun? Whatdo you think of them? I’ll tell you a story about me in Zhongguancun.

Itwas an unforgettable experience to me on October 25th,2013. After theregular meeting of toastmaster in the morning, I rushed to Zhongguancun torepair some electronic equipments: a Single-Lens[lenz]透镜,镜头reflex['ri:fleks], a laptop in my backpack.

It was a beautiful day. Thesunshine, the people, all the surroundings were so nice that I was filled with energyand good mood, even though I didn’t have lunch after such a busy meeting.

Unfortunately,I got into a traffic jam with the bus I took. Then, I understood why the place wascalled zhongguancun. In Chinese, it means ‘Be closed in the middle of thevillage’. However, I knew well about the saying: You can change your mood evenif the sky is cloudy. So I changed to take subway and fought though the crowdedand finally arrived at the destination: Dinghao, a famous market in Zhongguancun.

WhenI stood at the entrance of Building A of Dinghao, in consideration of savingtime, I asked the security guard:hey, buddy. how can I go to Building B ofDinghao. ’30 meters!turn left!’, he shouted without facial expression—which wasvery important in speeches. But I would not give my professional evaluation tohim. Ok, Anyway, I saved my time. It didn’t matter what I had put up with.

(simulate the rush to Building B)

Thatsecurity guard was so nice! He didn’t cheat me. First step was finished since Imanagedto arrive at the right place. Itmight not last long to have all other matters done, I thought.

‘hey, buddy['bʌdɪ]’ Suddenly, a harshtone shouted at me when I was going into the entrance of Building.‘what’s up?’ ’Are you going to repaircomputers?’ I kept silent, ‘Cameras?’. ‘Nothing!’ I answered firmly. I workedin IT for over 3 years. Anyhow, I knew clearly that you were just the agentsfor stores which would cheat customers and earnmuchfrom them than normal. I would not believe in you.

So, I keptgoing. ‘Isn’t this a Single-Lens reflex camera?’ he tried to catch my bag withcameras. He dared to catch a customer’s bag roughly without permission! My God!Though I thought today would be a tough day and this would be a tough journey. But I hadn’t thought this kind of thing would arise. I was so angry that Ifended off his hand quickly and then rushed into the Building.

It must be anindividual case.(walking with thinking) It must be. I comforted myself when Iwas searching the repair store with certification of Canon['kænən]. (Since the Single-Lens reflex is worthabout 12000, so I wanted to repair it in a certificated company)

But dreams werebeautiful while the reality was so cruel.

Each 3 meters, a hospitable[hɒˈspɪtəbl] middle aged man or woman would come to me. ‘Hi,handsome. Are you going to repair cameras or computers?’ My headwas going to break up. ‘My god!’ I shouted in my heart.

What urged me want to cry is a fairly hospitableladdy. ‘Hey, boy! What are you looking for?Are you going to repair cameras?’ She noticed my bag for the Single-Lensreflex. ‘No, I’ve just sent it to a repair store!’ I was really proud with my intelligence. It was such a wonderful excuse名词读/ɪk'skjuːs/ that she musthave nothing to say. ‘Then, what’s in your backpack?’ My-- God! ‘None of yourbusiness!’. It seemed that I shouldn’t be nice to anybody at this place!

Coincidentally,I found the certificated store at the maze [meɪz]迷宫. And things got better. The attendants therewere so nice and patient, what’s more important, they wouldn’t promote [prəˈməut] to me. Soon, Igot everything done.

What madeZhongguancun into such a place that consumers were afraid of? Maybe everybody, including the bosses of the stores, only wanted to earn more from consumers, but ignored the services, the experience, the satisfaction [ˌsætɪs'fækʃn] which were thebase of the brand of Zhongguancun. All in all, it’s about money. But businessis based on credibility, integrity, healthy competition in all ages. Only if wehold these qualities, can we have a sustainable development. Thus, please slowdown to wait for our hearts and to wait for our souls.
