Unit 3: Present continuous and present simple (1)

use the continuous for something that is happening at or around the time of speaking. The action is not finished.

 

• The water is boiling, can you turn it off?
• Let's go our. It isn't raining now.
• Dn't bother me. I am busy.
• I am going to bed now. Goodnight!

Using the continuous for temporary situation:

• I am leaving I am living with some friends until I find a flat.
• you're working hard today.

Present simple (I do)

Use the simple for things in genearal or things that happen repeatedly.

• water boils at 100 degree celsius.
• Excuse me, do you speak english?
• what do you usually do at weekends?

use the simple for a permanent situation:

• My parents live in London.

 

比较： I am always do 和 I'm always doing 是有不同的：

usually we say 'I always do something'.

•  I always go to work by car. (==我一直开车上班)

you can say I'm always doing something, but this means you do something very often, more than the speaker thinks is normal or reasonable.

• I've lost my key again. I'm always losing things.
• I'm always losing things doesn't means I lose things every time.
• you are always watching television. You should do something more active.
• John is never satisfied. He's always complaining.
