V7 course creation in action

V7 Academy was created out of one core principle: We want to help people become better canyoneers.

When it comes to descending a canyon, it doesn’t matter what certifications we carry, what cool equipment we have, or what club we’re a part of. What really matters is what we know, what we learned to do, and what we can do. The development of these skills, abilities, and knowledge is our true measure, and we call this development “Competency”.

All of V7 Academy’s courses are built on a broad educational concept called Competency Based Learning, which puts student learning first. We’ve abandoned the traditional course model of time-constrained learning and Pass/Fail examinations. We want people to learn at their own speed, because we believe everyone can achieve the same outcome if given enough time to do so.
