The key to increasing employee morale is through a tried and true skill - servant leadership. Help others achieve and attain what they want, and eventually you will achieve what you want - this is the whole idea wrapped around effective leadership and an improvement in employee morale.

Leadership is influence. Everything begins and ends with leadership. Servant leadership is key to success as well as the path to improving employee morale and motivation in the workplace.

A leader who is effective in influencing employees, serving their needs, developing their growth, and helping them understand the overall mission statement of the company, will be effective in the development of success within their department or organization.

A great leader will give an employee a sense of purpose. Employees come into work every day doing the 'same old thing' as the saying goes. If there is a sense of purpose to accomplish 'the same old thing' there will be more productivity and an increase in employee morale.

1. Create a positive work place

Negativity in the workplace decreases employee motivation in the workplace faster than positivity. It takes a lot of work to create a positive working environment and once a negative attitude creeps in, it can ruin the entire workplace.

Employees need focus, and negativity is a big distraction. Create positive goals with daily task list so that each employee has a sense of accomplishment and motivation in the workplace. This positive environment is infectious, but be a proactive leader to solve problems and identify them as soon as possible. Servant leadership will lead to improved employee morale in this case, but the goal is to maintain it.

2. Accountability

A servant leader will revolve around team work - where employees are accountable to each other and not just to the leader or themselves. As a servant leader, assign accountability to the employee and have them be accountable for each others tasks. An effective leader will also be accountable to team work and be responsible if things go awry but will also praise when things go well.
