3.1 Edge Control Protocol (ECP): A protocol that provides reliable delivery of control SDUs between a
station and a bridge.
3.2 Edge Discovery and Configuration Protocol (EDCP): A protocol that exchanges a set of parameters,
carried in EVB TLVs via LLDP, that is used to discover and configure Edge Relays.
3.3 Edge Relay (ER): A user of the reflective relay, multichannel, or remote replication service. VEBs and
VEPAs are examples of edge relay devices.
3.4 Edge Virtual Bridge Controlling Bridge (EVBCB): The bridge adjacent to a station that implements
the EVB protocols.
3.5 Reflective relay: A mode of operation for a bridge port that enables reflection of received frames.
3.6 Remote Replication Service: A service provided by M-components that allows frames to be replicated
to multiple destinations under the control of a Controlling Bridge.
3.7 S-channel: A point-to-point S-VLAN that spans over Port-mapping S-VLAN components and between
two S-channel Access Ports (CAPs).
3.8 S-channel Access Port (CAP): The Bridge Port (Provider Access Port or a Port-mapping S-VLAN
component that terminates an S-channel.
3.9 S-channel Discovery and Configuration Protocol (CDCP): A protocol that operates over LLDP, used
to configure S-VLANs to create S-channels.
3.10 Station or Bridge Access Port (SBAP): An RCAP used at a station or bridge to implement Schannels.
Many S-channels pass through an SBAP.
3.11 Virtual Edge Bridge (VEB): A specialized bridge within an end station used for bridging between
multiple virtual station interfaces and an external network.
3.12 Virtual Edge Port Aggregator (VEPA): An entity within an end station that knows the MAC
addresses for each attached VSI and operates in conjunction with a reflective relay in an edge virtual bridge
controlling bridge to provide bridging between multiple virtual station interfaces and an external network.
3.13 Virtual Station Interface (VSI): An internal LAN that connects between a Virtual End Station port
and a Bridge Port of a SCUB.
3.14 Virtual Station Interface (VSI) Discovery and Configuration Protocol (VDP): A protocol that
coordinates network resources for Virtual Machines.
