PSSTATUS – contains useful PeopleSoft information such as the PeopleSoft environment database OWNERID (eg:SYSTEM,SYSADM,sa ,etc. ),the PeopleTools release version (TOOLSREL), the LASTREFRESHDTTM column – which triggers processes to invalidate built cached definitions requiring all objects to be recached, and the UNICODE_ENABLED bit flag where a value of 1 indicates the environment’s database is treated as a UNICODE one.
It is not recommended to update LASTREFRESHDTTM as part of a daily operational procedure,this should be performed only in certain circumstances like maitenances or environments refresh, when users have been announced previously or are not allowed to connect to PS.
StaRting with PeopleTools version 8.48, two more columns were added to the PSSTATUS table: DBID and DATABASE_OPTIONS. If DATABASE_OPTIONS field is set 2, the columns in the PS database that would normally be created as type LONG, will be created as Character Large Objects Type (CLOBs).
CLOB type presents many advantages like : it allows the use of SQL string functions (unpermitted by LONG type),the possibility to move data in CLOBs fields through database links, etc.
In order to check that the PeopleTools version in the database is the same with the one installed we can issue the following command:
SELECT TOOLSREL FROM PSSTATUS;
When applying patches to a certain PeopleTools release (eg: original version 8.49.08 upgraded to 8.49.18) the TOOLSREL field shoud not be affected.
