The Planning Workbench is a
tracker
-type program. Use the Planning Workbench to
create new jobs or change existing jobs based on suggestions from the Epicor application. The application provides suggestions
when you create new sales orders or change existing ones.
If your company uses the Material Requirements Planning (MRP) module, the Planning Workbench can also create suggestions that are not linked to sales orders.
This allows you to plan ahead to manufacture stock or job quantities you may need in the future.
The Planning Workbench allows you to view the following information:
Entry of each
sales order line and release for
a non-stock item,
jobs that need to be done to
satisfy the demand.
Sales order changes due to a linked
sales order change. These changes include:
Date - The request date can move forward or backward.
Revision Level - The revision on the sales order is different than the revision on the attached job.
Quantity - The sales order quantity can increase, decrease, or be canceled.
If the MRP module is installed but cannot create an unfirm job, an entry is placed in this queue.
If job material is declared as make direct, it displays in this queue.
These records display in the
Suggestions grid, showing you Part, Due Date, Target Job, Source, Customer Name, and other values. The planner selects the action based on the suggestion or deletes the record from the workbench if it is unnecessary.
New demand in the Planning Workbench creates the need for a production control decision, including the following:
Create a new, discrete job
Combine releases
Link to an existing job
Delete the suggestion
Job number decisions - use the next available job number, order release number, or unique number you assign.
After you select a requirement in the Planning Workbench, you can create jobs directly. You can also use the Job Manager to combine requirements into jobs or use the Order Job Wizard to create and process sales order jobs.
Suggestions
The following table outlines possible suggestions the Epicor application can make:
Suggestion Condition
Create job or link to existing job An order release is created and marked to be made (produced), or the quantity increases on an existing order not linked to an open job.
Part/Rev conflict The part number or part revision on the order changed so it differs from all the jobs to which it is linked.
Increase production quantity The quantity on linked orders increases so it is greater than the quantity on the job. The application suggests to increase the quantity on the first job linked to such an order.
Decrease production quantity The quantity called for on linked orders decreases so it is less than the quantity specified on the job.
Unlink or delete job A quantity on an order decreases to the point that the job is unnecessary.
Unlink job An order release linked to the job has been deleted.
Expedite job The dates of linked order releases have been changed so the earliest release linked to the job is now due earlier than the due date of the job.
Postpone job The dates of linked order releases have been changed so the earliest release linked to the job is now due more than five days later than the due date of the job.
Actions
Several actions are available to meet demand:
Manage supply and demand for the selected suggestion record.
Review the order behind the suggestion record.
Create a job from the suggestion record.
Note: When you create jobs though the Planning Workbench, a Submit Process button is available. Click this button to generate jobs through background processing. While this job creation process runs, you can continue to work in the Epicor application. You can then review these jobs in Job Entry, Job Tracker, or other tracker and job management programs.
Delete the suggestion record.
