Postdoc Position in Neuromodulation and Neuroplasticity
The Jiang Lab (PI: Dr. Jing Jiang, https://jingjiang.lab.uiowa.edu/) at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine is seeking 1-2 highly motivated postdoctoral researcher(s) (2-year term with potential of extension) to conduct translational research at the intersection of neuroscience, electrophysiology, neuroimaging, brain stimulation, and psychiatry. Join us as we scale up our efforts to better understand how to modulate human brain circuits and promote the development of novel treatments to improve mental illness!!
Responsibilities
The candidate(s) will be expected to analyze a diverse range of unique datasets for journal publications. These datasets include, but are not limited to, brain stimulation (transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), intracranial electrical stimulation (iES)) concurrent with functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) or intracranial electroencephalography (iEEG) datasets, and brain lesion datasets, from healthy, neuropsychiatric, and neurological populations.
What you will achieve
The ultimate goal of postdoctoral training in the Jiang lab is to help you become an independent researcher. You will work with Dr. Jiang to develop your personalized career development plan. You will receive training and resources to publish impactful papers, gain leadership/mentoring experience, and apply for eligible research grants. You will have networking opportunities by collaborating with clinicians (neurologists, psychiatrists, and neurosurgeons) and neuroscientists both within and outside UIowa. You will also receive professional guidance for job hunts.
Environment and team
The University of Iowa is an internationally recognized leader in neuropsychology and cognitive neuroscience. The Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine is consistently ranked in the top ten nationally in NIH funding per faculty member.
The Jiang Lab is an inclusive, supportive, and vibrant team with wide and active collaborations with faculty and teams from the Departments of Psychiatry, Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Psychological and Brain Sciences within and outside the campus. We have state-of-the-art facilities including concurrent TMS-fMRI, TMS-iEEG, iES-fMRI systems, as well as access to the world-renowned Iowa Neurological Patient Registry with neuroimaging and neuropsychological testing data from over 4,500 patients with focal brain lesions.
Life in Iowa
Iowa City ranks among one of the best places to live in America (e.g., #1 Best College Town by http://Reviews.org). Iowa City, Johnson County, and the state of Iowa all routinely appear on national “best of” lists for low cost of living, safety, access to world-class health care, and more. We offer a salary based on NIH/NRSA guidelines, and a comprehensive benefits package (e.g., a retirement plan).
Requirements
-
Experience with neuroimaging and/or electrophysiological data analyses, e.g., in fMRI, (i)EEG, brain lesion, and/or neural network
-
Proficiency in coding with MATLAB and/or Python
-
PhD and/or MD degree in Neuroscience, Computer Science, Electrical/Biomedical Engineering, Psychology, Psychiatry/Neurology, or a related field
-
A track record of peer-reviewed scientific journal publications
-
Self-motivated, able to work independently, strong written and interpersonal communication skills
To apply, please email (1) a cover letter describing your research interests and (2) your CV to Dr. Jing Jiang (jing-jiang@uiowa.edu). Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled. Start date is flexible depending on candidate availability.
