Now linux system become more and more useful. But sometimes I still need to upgrade it or reinstall it. Or some a reason, your system is becoming slowly. It will take long time to find the root cause. And even though you find the root cause, it has no sense to you. So in the cases like this, you'd better reinstall your system rather than do more analyses.
Re-install system is easy, after installation, you may need to do many customization which may spend you much time. So I suggest you should divide your harddisk into at least four partitions. The first part is used for root filesystem, the second is used for swap, the third is used for /opt and the last is used for /home.
Thus, you can save much time after a installation. For an instance, you may use mail frequently and many mail are important. So after a new installation, please don't open thunder bird before you move the old mailbox to current ~/.thunderbird/. And the same to the others!
