Step 1, format the new disk, take the disk /dev/sdb as an example(root is needed)
mkfs.ext3 /dev/sdb
after this command, the disk is readable to ubuntu
Step 2, mount the disk to a mount pointer, for example, i'd like to mount the new disk to /mnt/disk2
cd /mnt
mkdir disk2
mount -t ext3 /dev/sdb /mnt/disk2
now, you can visit the new disk in directory disk2
but the new disk is not auto mount while you power up, so we need to configure it to auto mount
Step 3, auto mount configure
vi /etc/fstab
in this file, add a new line like below
/dev/sdb /mnt/disk2 ext3 rw
now, the job done
