Evolution of SAP HANA
In SAP HANA, you can store data and retrieve it in response to structured queries. Unlike traditional databases,SAP HANA does this by accessing main memory and not disk, yielding much faster data retrieval times. This means that all relevant data for an application is held in memory and the application reads and writes directly to the memory only. Changes to in memory data are logged in real time in the same way as traditional databases. At recurrent so-called save points , all new changes are written back to the persistence layer asynchronously. As a result, in a case of failure, the system can be restarted to any point in time without loss of data.
