批评《微软的软件测试之道》

1. 前言

 

最近从上海图书馆借了一本《微软的软件测试之道》，读得时候觉得不大爽，所以想说几句（纯粹个人观点）。

 

出发点：既然这是一本有关测试的书，那我很感兴趣的是：中译文的参与者、出版社的编辑有没有把《微软的软件测试之道》这本书测试好？感觉是没有。因为明显的缺陷太多了。

 

说明：目前还没有通篇阅读，按照仔细程度来说，覆盖率也就10%。而且阅读时候没有对照原文，只是对某些特别不对劲的地方提出异议，才去参照原文。

 

2. 中译本缺陷例子

 

2.1中国人请不要忽悠中国人

 

1）标题：《...之道》，这里用道，是否合适？

 

因为道，基本的含义是规律。而英文原版封面上，写得很清晰：Best Practices。所以不要提升到“道”的层面。

 

2）page V: "这是我所见过的测试方面的经典!"，是否夸大其词？

 

参照一下作者原话，很诚实，没有提到任何“经典”二字。

 

there are a ton of books on testing—I know, I've probably read a few dozen of them—and some of them are really good.

 

The material and structure of the courses are fantastic, but that's not what makes it so great. The way our instructors tie in anecdotes, success stories, and cool little bits of trivia throughout our courses is what makes them impactful and memorable. I thought that if we could include some stories and bits of information on how Microsoft has used some of these approaches, the book might be interesting.

哪来的”一致“？

 

2.2 错误翻译

 

1）page 3: 在全世界的设备上创造...

乖乖，难道微软已经潜入到冰箱、饮水机上了？

 

原文如下：

...across a world of devices

 

显然，这里world意思是很多，而不是全世界。我想微软还不至于那么头脑发热嘛。是否应该扣分？

 

2)  page 42: 艾森豪威尔说过，“在战斗开始时，我总发现那些战前计划是无用的，但是计划却是不可少的”

让人一头雾水。这一句翻译我给0分。0分，这么大的缺陷，怎么没有被发现？

 

原文如下：

In preparing for battle I have always found that plans are useless, but planning is indispensable.

 

是译者没有明白plan和planning之间差别导致的。结合艾森豪威尔以下话：

I tell this story to illustrate the truth of the statement I heard long ago in the Army: Plans are worthless, but planning is everything. There is a very great distinction because when you are planning for an emergency you must start with this one thing: the very definition of 'emergency' is that it is unexpected, therefore it is not going to happen the way you are planning.

 

理解：plans指的是静态、纸上谈兵的、一成不变的，planning是过程、动态。

 

3) page 268: ...不可靠的“税务”

原文：

... unreliable "tax" that testers add to their automation

 

税务: 征税的事务。那是政府机关的事情了。

 

4) 中英文对照术语表一塌糊涂（中译本最差部分）

建议去咨询新东俞敏洪老师，因为他是词汇专家。

 

例子：page 310 shrinkwrap software 用收缩胶膜包装的软件

这个也给0分。

 

shrinkwrap software ：software on CD-ROMs that are boxed and shrink-wrapped and sold in stores

莫名其妙

3. 小结

 

1) 对待如此不认真出版的书，千万不要当作“经典”

2) 建议机械出版社的编辑，下一次出版IT新书前，考虑提供Beta版给csdn的网友评审。

3) 英文4级以上，建议直接读原版的
