With kids like that you have to lay down the law and let them see you're serious.  对于那样的小孩你必须发号施令，让他们知道你是严肃认真的。

a. You're the boss. Lay down the law.  你是老板，要立下规矩。

3. 训斥；

You shouldn't lay down the law to me about that.  你不应该就那件事来训斥我。

His wife is going to lay down the law to him for making a fool of himself.  因为他出了洋相，他的妻子会责备他。
