Agree/Disagree

这篇7.5-8.5分

题目: Women and men are commmonly seen as having different strengthes and weakness. Some people think it is right to excludemales and females from certian professions because of their gender. To extend do you agree or disagree?

正文:

Social issues related to gender have been widely discussed among people over centuries. Due to gender differences, some people have claimed that certain jobs should accept either men or women. However, such a statement suffers from logical and factual problems. I hardly agree with this one-side proposal.

To begin with, limiting the access to certain occupations on the basis of gender may ignore the individualities since the over-generalized characteristics of men and women are not always universal. Such an act may hurt the whole society. For instance, if females are only allowed to enter particular careers be them nurses, teachers or accountants, those who are unenthusiastic and unable to handle these work and rejected from other professions might take these important positions. Males that are authentically passionate about these jobs will be faced with the risks of being jobless. Hence, the overall domestic unemployment rate will increase.

Additionally, in a society where the exclusion of men or women from certain jobs is taken for granted by people, pre-existing gender stereotypes tend to be reinforced, which is undesirable for social equality. For example, in many parts of the world girls are either explicitly or implicitly barred from entering certain professions such as science. As a result, girls might be discouraged from taking science classes at an early age, and later have less chance of finding good jobs. Had it not been for such bias, the society would have been more productive.

Admittedly, females and males with naturally-selected biological dissimilarities either on brain structures or genes grant differentiated cognitive skills or physical strengths. Hence, labor division according to genders might enable a society to achieve productive efficiency. However, the collaboration and cooperation between women and men making full use of their distinctive advantages might further facilitate the efficiency of working, which has been studied extensively by multiple groups of researchers worldwide.

In conclusion, having considered both sides of the statement, I still believe that in a diverse and dynamic society, people, regardless of their gender, ought to have equal opportunities and access to compete for the jobs that they desire for.

题目: Some countries spend a lot of money preparing competitors to take part in major competitions such as Olympic Games or football World Cup. Some people say that it would be better to spend this money encouraging children to take up sports from a young age. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

正文:

Nowadays, various countries are investing a large amount of money in major competitions. Some people claim that it would be better to use the budget to encourage children to take part in sports from a young age. I completely agree with this opinion.

To begin with, children are the future of society. No amount of money is too much to invest in the cultivation of children. If such a budget is used to invest in children’s sports competition, more and more children will participate in the sport which they are interested in. As a result, the next generation of our country will be stronger and more healthy. Hence, disease rates would decrease and life expectancy would increase.

Additionally, investing in children has a higher return on investment. The current competitors for sports will soon age and become unable to participate in sporting events. By contrast, children are unshaped, and it is much easier to develop them into good athletes than it is to develop adult athletes. Therefore, spending the government’s national budget on children will facilitate the early preparation and training of successful sportsmen in the future.

It cannot be denied that spending the budget on existing athletes is effective and we may achieve certain results in the short term. However, in the long run, the only way to achieve greater success is to develop their sports interests and skills in childhood.

In conclusion, having considered both sides of the statement, I firmly maintain the perspective that investing the funds in promoting early engagement in sports among children is preferable to investing in training athletes for participation in major competitions.

题目: Nowdays it’s become easier and more affordable for people to visit other countries. Is it a positive or negative development?

正文:

It cannot be denied that as international travel is becoming easier and more affordable, certain issues and inconvenience have been brought to both the travelers and locals. As a result, some impressionable(易受影响的) people might form the bias(偏见) that the development of international travel is more of a negative development. Nevertheless(不过), as far as culture and globalization, international economy, and environmental protection are concerned, such a development is for sure a positive one.

First and foremost, the increasing easiness and affordability of international travel promotes both the spread of domestic culture and learning of foreign culture, contributing to a deeper international mutual understanding. Due to difference in ideology and value, nations around the world usually hold stereotype opinions on others, causing difficulties in personal, business, and political communication and cooperation. Easier international travel not only enables travelers to show the world what their true life is, but showcase the world right in front of the travelers.

Second, the fact that easier international travel promotes the growth of international economy indicates that it is definitely a positive development. Take Thailand, a country that benefits greatly from tourism, for example. Thanks to the easiness of international travel in modern days, the reasonable cost of living, fantastic sightseeing spots, and charming culture in Thailand can be enjoyed by people around the world. As a result, about 25% of Thailand’s economy is closely associated with tourism, which has provided tons of jobs for locals. Had it not been for the easiness and affordability in international travel, Thailand would not have been able to attract international travels or create jobs for citizens.

A voice arises that international travel could bring devastating effects to the local environment due to pollution. Ironically, it is usually not the travelers who bring damage but lack of funding or poor management. Particularly in developing regions, without the income from travelers, the locals would have no choice but to exploit natural resources and damage the environment; on the other hand, effective tourism management can not only generate funding for the environmental protection but keep the sightseeing spots from being affected.

Therefore, in terms of culture and globalization, international economy, and environmental protection, I strongly hold the opinion that easier international travel is a positive development. While one sees a circle and another sees a zero(仁者见仁智者见智), I believe my opponents will compromise upon being shown to my article

Analysis

题目: In some countries, the number of people who use bicycles as their main form of transport is decreasing even though riding bicycles has many benefits. What are the reasons? What could be done to encourage the use of bicycles.

正文:

It cannot be denied that bicycle is an invention that has existed for a long time in human history, and such a fact leads some to have the idea that bicycle is a thing of the past. However, such an idea needs to be scrutinized meticulously before a conclusion can be reached.

First and foremost, it is a fact that due to the development of technology, the use of bicycle has declined dramatically as people’s main form of transport. We now have faster and more efficient ways of communication – private cars, subways, and bus rapid transit – which take us to our intended destinations easily and conveniently, without the need to keep the bulky bikes with us when we hang out with friends, and not to mention the trouble of keeping them in a safe place from theft.

Although some might claim that bikes are outdated, bicycles in fact have significant benefits to both individuals and the society in terms of health and the environment. For us, riding bikes not only helps us dodge traffic congestions during peak hours, but promote our physical health through moderate aerobic exercise and mental health through distracting us from intensive study or professional work; on the other hand, the use of vehicles has caused major cities around the globe the problem of air pollution such as smog, and the wide adoption of bikes could contain such issues – the success in Amsterdam, Netherland and Copenhagen, Denmark are two successful cases in point.

In my opinion, it is through the combination of technology and governmental policy that we can best encourage the use of bicycles. To be more specific, the wide adoption of mobile devices and GPS technology has enabled the birth of shared bikes, which not only complements conventional ways of transportation but eliminates the need for carrying or storage; furthermore, governmental subsidies could be provided to companies that operate shared bikes, and those who do not own private cars and frequently use bicycles. The synergy from such a combination will effectively work as an incentive to boost the use of bicycles.

In conclusion, the use of bicycles has numerous advantages to our modern society, and it should be promoted. While one sees a zero and another sees a circle, I am confident that my opponents will compromise after being shown to my article.

Analysis

题目: In education and employment, some people work harder than others. Why do some people work harder than others? Is it always a good thing to work hard?

正文:

It cannot be denied that spending more time and effort on our work and study could usually yield more results, and such a fact leads some to generate the opinion that working harder than others is the very principle of life. However, such an idea needs to be scrutinized meticulously before a conclusion can be reached.

First and foremost, it is a fact that due to the accelerating pace of life caused by the growth of economy, many tend to work harder than others. More goods and services are now available to us, combined with the effect of advertising, it is a natural tendency for people to desire what they do not have, resulting in an increasing number of diligent students and workers who aim to enjoy these products, tangible or intangible; furthermore, the growth of economy in recent centuries has also conglomerated societal wealth into the hands of a few, further burdening the ordinary working class who do not have power.

Second, the fact that technology has allowed the fast spread of information indicates that people work harder as they see more “role models.” Take the case of the successful stories of entrepreneurs that we almost hear about every day on social media via mobile devices: while they are indeed a tiny portion of the population, the high frequency in which we hear about the stories leaves us the impression that such is the norm for every individual. Had it not been for such development in the society, we would never have formed such a value.

Although some might claim that working hard is a virtue, such philosophy in fact might compromise multiple aspects of our life and the society. For us, extended working or study hours could lead to a lack of physical exercise and communication with our family and beloved ones, damaging our physical and mental health and then forming a vicious cycle in the efficiency of our work and study; on the other hand, a society with a heavy focus on “working hard,” namely material wealth, will produce an atmosphere with an animosity between people as they view everyone else a competitor, losing the capacity of humanity in the culture of the city, eventually forcing its citizens out due to excessive pressure and mental suffering.

In conclusion, always working harder is a belief that carrys risk to both individuals and the society. While one sees a zero and another sees a circle, I am confident that my opponents will compromise after being shown to my article.
