I was living in Chicago and going thorough what was a particularly cold winter both in my personal life and the outside temperature .One evening I was walking home from a bar where I had been drinking along,feeling sorry for myself,when I saw a homeless man standing over an exhaust grate in front of a department store.He was wearing a filthy sport coat and approaching everyone who passed by for money.

在芝加哥，我经历了一个特别寒冷的冬天，一天晚上，我独自一人喝酒为自己感到难过。当我从酒吧往回走的时候，我看到一个无家可归的人站在百货公司排气炉前面，他穿着一件脏兮兮的运动上衣，走近每个路过的人要钱。

I was too immersed in my own troubles to deal with him so I crossed the street.As I went by, I looked over and saw a businessman come out of the store and pull a ski parka out of bag and hand it to the homeless man .For a moment both the man and I were frozen in time as the businessman turned and walked away.Then the man looked across the street at me.He shook his head slowly and I knew he was crying.

  我自怜自爱，没工夫理会他，所以我过了马路。当我走过，看到一个商人从店里出来，从包里拿出一件滑雪外套给那个流浪汉，那个商人转身走开的那一刻，对于我和那个流浪汉来说，时间似乎都凝固住了，然后那个流浪汉在街对面看着我，他慢慢的摇了摇头，我知道她在哭。

It was the last time I have ever been able to disappear into my own sorrow.

这是我最后一次为自己难过。
