Viewing Error:
/etc/resolv.conf must be a symlink
Solutions
It worked!!
Thanks! I had to use ubuntu in virtualBox to connect to a cisco vpn network. It actually worked with vpnc in virtual PC by microsoft, but I could not change the resolution there. Anyway I couldn’t get it to work in virtualBox, vpnc that is. It comes up with this same symlink error and when I type this line in the console:
sudo ln -s /etc/resolvconf/run/resolv.conf’
and then run vpnc again I still get the error:
/etc/resolv.conf must be a symlink
This is just too much. I’m giving up on Ubuntu and Linux.
Cheers. If I do step2 I get: No such file or directory. What to do? It means that /etc/resolv.conf must be a symlink :)
Try this:
1. Back up your existing resolv.conf file (just in case): ‘sudo mv /etc/resolv.conf /etc/resolv.conf.backup’
2. Create a symlink to /etc/resolvconf/run/resolv.conf: ‘sudo ln -s /etc/resolvconf/run/resolv.conf’
That should do it. If it doesn’t you can replace your old resolv.conf with ‘sudo mv /etc/resolv.conf.backup /etc/resolv.conf’
