· As a data passes from one layer (protocol) to the next, the next protocol (layer) transforms the header, trailer, and message data into its own version of a segment, packet, datagram, or frame, called a protocol data unit (PDU).
· Each Layer in the TCP/IP protocol stack gives its version of a PDU a different name (This is good to know so that you won’t embarrass yourself around network administrators who are really picky about this stuff).
