Wrong vs Mistake vs Error vs Incorrect

 

Wrong & Incoorect

“Incoorect” 比 “ Wrong ” 更柔和，尤其是在指出某人的错误时。这两个词的意思确实是重叠的，但是 Wrong 这个词可以用来指道德上的过失，而 Incoorect 并不是这样用的。这就是为什么 Wrong 比 Incoorect 更像是一个 “更消极”、“更严厉” 或 “更个人化” 的词。比较一下柯林斯的这些定义:

wrong (adjective)
1 not correct or truthful ⇒ the wrong answer
2 acting or judging in error ⇒ you are wrong to think that
3 immoral; bad ⇒ it is wrong to cheat

incorrect (adjective)
1 false; wrong ⇒ an incorrect calculation
2 not fitting or proper ⇒ incorrect behaviour

至于一个词在口语中使用，另一个词在写作中使用，我不同意这种区别。当谈到语法问题时，我认为你可以使用任何一种，不管是口语还是写作正在被评估:

• That sentence uses the wrong verb tense.
• That sentence uses an incorrect verb tense.

在这种情况下， Wrong 并不比 Incoorect 更严酷，因为从上下文来看，很明显我们谈论的只是动词的变位，而不是某种道德信念或行为。我认为这两个句子都可以用来纠正某人的讲话或写作。

 

Error vs Mistake

Error：由于无知或无知而做错事(你认为是对的，但其实不然)

To do something wrong due to ignorance or poor knowledge (You think it is correct but it is not)

ex. It was an error to do business with that nasty guy, he cheated us.

Mistake：你有知识，但一不小心就犯了错误。(自愿)

You have the knowledge but in a slip you make something wrong. (Involuntary)

ex. Ups! Sorry for drink up all your beer, I was absent minded. It was a mistake.

 

Wrong & Erroneous

Erroneous：通常在谈论基于事实的问题时使用

Erroneous is typically used when you're talking about fact-based issues. It means incorrect or mistaken.

ex. He made the erroneous assumption that the world was flat.

Wrong: 也可以用于这些情况，但它有更广泛的含义，包括道德或伦理上的错误、不公平或不公正的事情。

Wrong can be used in those situations too, but it has broader meaning to include things that are morally or ethically wrong, unfair, or unjust.

ex. He's wrong about how much water will fit in that cup.

ex. Shoplifting is the wrong thing to do.
