Just read an article from the Forbes about Xiaomi, I come to think about startups in China. Strictly speaking, Xiaomi is not on the list of startups in China. A company founded several years ago, Xiaomi is mature in its marketing strategies. However, what has remained for years is its poor design and plagiarism on other companies' products such as iPhone or Samsung. MIUI is basically a copy of iOS. MI4 also takes the design of iPhone4. Instead of being a company making efforts to design great products, Xiaomi did spend a pretty much amount of money on making his products resemble others'. Its bands, for example, cost only 79 yuan, which is a far less price than many other bands such as Nike's or Jawbones. More importantly, both of their products serve pretty much similar functions. This is a super low price in comparison with many products. But the bad thing it that it is hard to buy one. XIaomi usually does not release enough products for consumers to buy. This is very nasty. Unlike Apple's similar strategy, Xiaomi's release is really limited. Without low pricing strategy, it is really hard for Xiaomi to gain a reputation among Chinese market. Another question is raised then: How long can its effects and prices remain? I don't know.
