北京时间10月25日早间消息，据资讯网站 Gamasutra 报道，人工智能之父、Lisp 语言发明者约翰·麦卡锡(John McCarthy)周一去世，享年84岁。

作为备受尊敬的计算机科学家、认知科学家，麦卡锡在1995年提出了“人工智能”一词，并被誉为人工智能之父，并将数学逻辑应用到了人工智能的早期形成中。

麦卡锡在1958年发明了 Lisp 编程语言，该语言至今仍在人工智能领域广泛使用。

麦卡锡在1971年获得了计算机界的最高奖项图灵奖，并在1991年获得了美国国家科学奖章(National Medal of Science Award)，2003年获得富兰克林学院奖章。

麦卡锡从1962年开始担任斯坦福大学教授，并在2000年底退休。

John McCarthy (born September 4, 1927; died October 24th, 2011 ^[1][2][3], in Boston, Massachusetts), was an American computer scientist and cognitive scientist who received the Turing Award in 1971 for his major contributions to the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). He was responsible for the coining of the term "Artificial Intelligence" in his 1955 proposal for the 1956 Dartmouth Conference and was the inventor of the Lispprogramming language.
