Adding a new disk in windows server 2008 failover clustering

1.Now go to Disk Management, Here you should see new disk that just now added by SAN administrator. If it is showing offline then right click on the disk and select Online.

2.Right click on unallocated disk and select “New Simple Volume”.

3.It will display “New Simple Volume Wizard”, Click on Next to proceed.

4.You will see the following page. Choose a volume size and click on Next.

5.Here assign drive letter from drop down list, you can also create a mount point on an existing disk or do not assign a drive letter.

6.Format the volume using NTFS also label the disk with proper name to identify disk and perform a quick format. Click on Next.

7.The disk should now be online and allocated.

8.Go to Failover Cluster Manager and right click on Storage and select “Add a disk”.

9.Select the new disk and click on OK.

10.Click on Storage, you should see your new disk under “Available Storage”

Now right click on the service or application to add the new disk to a service or application and select “Add Storage”. 

 

The Add Storage window will appear. Click on the drive and click OK.

Click on Sql server, you can see the new disk under SQL Server.

 

To confirm whether disk has been added in dependencies, click on sql server and go to services right click on sql server, select properties.

 

In sql server properties window, you can see two cluster disk 3 and disk 2 are listed.
