KNOTCRAFT
eBook: Knotcraft Level 1
OVERVIEW
How many different knots can you spot?
The descending nature of canyoning requires the regular use of ropes.
By using proper knotcraft we can rig rappels, attach people and equipment on ropes, connect ropes together and perform a number of functions that allow for a safe progression in the canyon. Knotcraft is one of the most important skills a canyoneer should master.
As a Level 1 Canyoneer, our primary focus should be on personal movement rather than rigging rappels. A canyoneer who can rig, but can’t rappel safely, is more of a liability than an asset to a canyon team. However, the ability to tie some basic knots is useful for assisting our Trip Leader, and it can also make our personal movement safer. Mastery of these knots will also help us prepare for the Level 2 course!
