I am writing this letter to express my deep regret for being unable to celebrate your birthday with you next week.
Yesterday, I was suddenly informed that there is going to be an academic conference in our school hall next week. My tutor asked me to fully prepare relevant presentation. Because I need to devote myself to completing it, I couldn’t steal time to enjoy myself at your birthday party. But, the birthday present I have prepared a month ago will be brought to you by Bob. Wish you a happy birthday in advance!

As one of the regular customers of your online store, I am writing this letter to express my complaint against the flaws in your product—an electronic dictionary I bought in your shop the other day.
　　

The dictionary is supposed to be a favorable tool for my study. Unfortunately, I found that there are several problems. To begin with, when I opened it, I detected that the appearance of it had been scratched. Secondly, I did not find the battery promised in the advertisement posted on the homepage of your shop, which makes me feel that you have not kept your promise. What is worse, some of the keys on the keyboard do not work.
　　

I strongly request that a satisfactory explanation be given and effective measures should be taken to improve your service and the quality of your products. You can either send a new one to me or refund me my money in full.

Vividly and graphically shown in the picture is an elder lady, holding a walking stick, and crossing the road slowly and stoopingly. Surprisingly, there is a robot holding her arm and supporting her to walk forward. Under the cartoon, there is a caption: “Technology has changed our life”.
      

Simple as it looks, the picture reveals a thought-provoking phenomenon that numbers of people are trying new smart products, such as robots, smart appliances, etc.. This is partly due to the fact that high-tech products could perfectly enhance our sense of happiness. If your appliance can be remotely controlled, you wouldn’t be bothered to do the trivial things after arriving home from work, for those things, such as cleaning the room, have been done before. However, their increasing popularity is detrimental to human being to some extent. If people become more and more dependent on technological products, a decrease in subjective initiative will follow.
       

To sum up, the development of science and technology has not only changed the living environment and lifestyle of human beings, but also greatly improved our living standards. However, it may also bring invisible harm to us, such as making people a slave to commodities, to which we should pay attention.
