The speaker considers that reading books is not as important as it once was in the age of television, for the reason that people can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books. As far as I am conserned, I strongly disagree with speaker. Three reasons can aptly illustrate this point.
The first reason why I have such a view is that one can systemically learn from books. The knowledge of human almost records in the books. If one want to know what about a theory, he can go to library, find the relevant books about the theory, and obtain all knowledge from primitive research foundation to current research achievement by reading them. Television programs are filled with amusement and scandal. Meaningful knowledge obtained by watching television are much less by contrast with books.
The second reason is that books are read anywhere because it is portalbe and do not need energy. One who want to watch televison somewhere must firstly take television set there and secondly find electrical outlet. If there is no electrical outlet, regretfully he can not watch it. However, learning by reading books is very convenient. One can read books anywhere, for example, in the camp. Under the same conditions, it is very difficult that he watch television set in the camp.
The third reason is that one can easily review the content studied before. We can not obtain all knowledge of a book by reading it once. When we find something incomprehensive, we can look for it in books anytime and review it.
The forth reason is that much more professional knowledge are only learned from books. Have you seen the content of latest phisical theory achievement in television set? The latest scient research achievements all publish by books. So one who want to study scient essay only read book, but not television set.
In sum ,from what have discussed above, we may final draw the conclusion that we learn much more from reading books than from watching television. Books are our primary choice when we want to obtain knowledge.
