【be friends with】对...友好

Jim is so kind a person, and everyone is willing to be friends with him.

即使主语是单数

He is friends with me .他对我很友好. 

【nothing but】仅仅，只不过

The Swiss discovered long years ago that constant warfare brought them nothing but suffering and poverty.苦难和贫穷.

【anything but】

You don't care about anything but yourself and your precious face.

你什么都不关心，除了你自己和你那张娇贵的脸

【no more than】的意思是“只不过”

【not more than】的意思是“不多于”.

There are no more than ten tickles left.剩下不到十张票.(有“票少”的含义)

The experiment was done by not more than 5 persons.做这个试验的人不到五个.(没有“多”或“少”的含义,只是客观地说明数目)

This room is no bigger than that.这个房间并不比那个大.(有“两个房间都不大”的含义)

This room is not bigger than that one.这个房间不比那个大.(没有“两个房间都不大或都不小”的含义)

no other than 与 none other than都可表示“不是别的，正是……”的意思。两者区别不大，常可换用。例如:

1）The tall figure that you saw was no other than our manager.
      The tall figure that your way was none other than our manager.
      你所见的那位身材魁梧的先生不是别人我们的经理。
2）It was no other than Jones who paid the medical expense for you.
     It was none other than Jones who paid the medical expense for you.
    为你付医疗费不是别人，正是琼斯。 

但no other than 侧重于“正是那个”我们所知道的，熟悉的或在谈论的人。

1）It was no other than Tommy Traddles who told me this piece of information.

Tommy Traddles was the very person who told me this piece of informatio   

告诉我这段消息的不是别人正是 Tommy Traddles。

2）You are no other than the professional talent we are looking for.

none other than 语气更强，表示惊奇、赞美、强调等语气时多用 none other than 。

1）The tall figure over there is none other than the great mathematician, Bill Williams, himself.
那位身材魁梧的先生正是大数学家贝尔·威廉姆斯本人。 （带有对贝尔·威廉姆斯赞美之情）
2）The winner of the speech contest was none other than Tom who doesn’t talk much in daily life.
这次演讲比赛的冠军竟然是汤姆，他平时不太讲话。 （带有惊奇之情）

【虚拟语气的用法】

1、提出将来会发生的事：

主句：主语＋would/should/might/could＋动词原形

从句：should＋动词原形    或者  were to＋动词原形

If he should go to Harvard University, he would make full use of his time.

如果他要上哈佛大学的话，他就会充分利用他的时间了。

2、提出现在的条件： 

主句：主语＋would/should/might/could＋动词原形

从句：动词过去式

If he studied at this school, he would know the enviornment around the school very much.

如果他在这所学校学习的话，他会很了解周边环境。

3、提出过去的未发生的条件：

主句：主语＋would/should/might/could have＋动词过去分词

从句：had＋动词过去分词

If I had read the book, I would have told you about it.

我如果看过本书，我会把内容告诉你了。
