Circuit Switching

Predecessor of Packet Switching，固定电话之间的传输方式

 Circuit switching的问题（为什么不能应用在电脑上）

1. Inefficient：每次communication都需要一个dedicated circuit导致过于inefficient（especially computer communications tends to be very bursty）

2. Diverse Rates：fixed rate circuit对于多变的computer communication来说不符合

3. State management：circuit switch需要maintain一定的per-communication state

Packet Switching

根据packet上的address将其通过不同的hop和router forward到最终的目的地

 

 

 

 

Why use packet switching in Internet

1. link 很贵

2. efficient

3. Internet was firstly designed to connect existing networks which use packet switching
