Service Engineers at Yahoo thrive on the scale and mission-critical nature of our complex advertising systems as well as the challenge that comes along with their operation. In this critical role, you'll utilize your rare combination of significant UNIX systems experience, network knowledge, troubleshooting skills, and coding sensibilities to design, deploy, monitor, and automate all operational aspects of Yahoo!'s critical platforms. The ideal candidate is a technical generalist with skills ranging from production systems/network management to software development.

Yahoo Global R&D Center in Beijing is fully owned and operated by US based Yahoo Inc. We are seeking service engineers to help us build and deploy Yahoo’s critical advertising products to Yahoo’s global markets.

Responsibilities

· Function as a technical generalist responsible for the overall health and performance of our platform and system

· Develop tools to automate the deployment, administration, and monitoring of a large-scale Linux environment

· Gain deep application-level knowledge of the systems as well as contributing to their overall design

· Work with international team to harden, enhance, document, and generally improve the operability of our systems

· Collaborate with product and development teams to strategize and execute according to business roadmap

· Assist in the configuration/build-out of new deployments to facilitate our constant growth 

· Participate in a 12x7 (daylight hours) on-call pager rotation

Minimum Job Qualifications

· Strong experiences with Linux (RHEL a plus)

· Extensive system administration background in Linux system

· Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills, including network-level troubleshooting ability

· Strong scripting skills in one or more of: Shell, Perl, Python, php

· Strong knowledge of TCP/IP networking, SMTP, HTTP, load-balancers, highly available network servers 

· Excellent English written and verbal communication skills

· Prior experience supporting 24x7, highly-available, service-oriented, distributed production system 

· 4+ years experience in administering large-scale UNIX installations (ISP background a plus) 

Preferred Job Qualifications

· Industry experience in supporting a large scale system.

· Background in working with international teams with light project management experience.

· BS/MS Computer Science.
