Lesson Three
Let’s start Lesson Three with a new char 人, which means human, sounds like ren in rent. If you say ren while pointing at yourself, I think every Chinese native will understand. And I guess you definitely imagine人 as a human body with two legs.
Then, the ninth char we learn so far, 大, which means big, sounds like dar in dark. By adding a line to 人, it becomes to be 大; and then if we add another line on the top of大, that is 天, which means heaven, sounds like t-year(read t and year without interval).
You see, a Chinese char is made by of lines. And you can join more lines to a char to get a new char.
You can use a box of sticks to play the making Chinese game.
Let go over what have learned. Ten chars in total:
一、二、三、口、日、月、不、人、大、天
Before we call it a day, we learn the 11th char明 which means bright, sounds like mean. It’s a combination of日 and月, two bright global in the sky.
However, the word明天 means tomorrow without any relation with the light.
See you 明天(tomorrow).
