Longer-term advice on navigating a career in machine learning

Gaol:

1, Job (big company or startup)

2, PhD

Do important work.(这是最终的目的)

 

1,how do you get that job offer or how do you get that offer of admission to the Ph.D program or admission.

2,selecting a position.

 

recruiters look for:

a,skills(ML, quiz, coding ability)

b, mearningful work, 你可以真正应用到工作中。

 

AI工程师，需要在广度上了解很多领域ML，DL， NLP，CV，。。。

可以通过上课、读论文的方式来拓宽自己对AI领域的了解。

 

在深度上，在某几个领域上做的比较深：如DL，CV。如何证明做的比较深：你做过的项目，开源贡献，research， internship。

take 很多classes，但在每个领域都有了解，但是都做的不是很深入，不是一个很好的学习策略，不是一个很好的职业成长策略。

可以通过做某一个领域相关的项目，来加深对某个领域的理解。

selecting a job：

if you want to keep learning new things, I think one of the biggest predictors of your success will be whether or not you're working with great people and projects, right?

so i think that if your five closest friends work really hard, read a lot of research papers, care aboout their work ,learning and making themselves better, then there's actually a very good chance that you will be,

that they'll influence you that way as well. so we're all human, We're all influenced by the people around us, right?

建议：

第一点：关注与你交互的10-30人，大概是什么样的人？与你有密切关联的这些人将会在最大程度上影响你。

第二点：关注你的manager，manager是对你影响最大的人，所以你一定要了解的你的manager， 并确保你愿意与他一起工作。

不要关注公司的brand。

 

I tend to choose the things to work on that will allow you to learn the most and you know, try to do important work ,right?

不要把视野停留在大公司关注的cv， nlp，等领域，可以多想想可以应用到哪些新的领域和场景，如何在传统的行业中应用AI。
